Teriyaki Sauce

Who knew teriyaki sauce was so easy to make at home? Just a few basic ingre­di­ents and voila! …  you might never buy the bot­tled stuff again.

(Serves 6)

INGREDIENTS

2 Tbls. (30 ml) cornstarch

2 Tbls. (30 ml) cold water

1 cup (240 ml) white sugar

1 cup (240 ml) Tamari (or soy) sauce

½ cup (120 ml) apple cider vinegar

2 cloves gar­lic, minced or pressed

1 Tsp. (5 ml) minced or pressed ginger

½  Tsp. (3 ml) ground black pepper

pinch of salt to taste

DIRECTIONS

1.    In a small saucepan over low heat, com­bine the corn­starch, cold water, sugar, soy sauce, vine­gar, gar­lic, gin­ger and ground black pepper.

2.    Let sim­mer, stir­ring fre­quently, until sauce thick­ens and bubbles.
